Mäni’s Raised A Bunch of Cash For AFA

Some of you enjoyed your favorite muffin here last Thursday.  Some munched on a sandwich or salad.  Some of you were aware of that day being about helping the less fortunate.

In either case you helped reach our goal of raising as much as possilbe to benefit a local charity, Aid For Aids LA

Last Thursday Dine Out LA had a very successful event.  Mäni’s customers came and participated and when the day was over we donated over $1,100.

Thank you all very much for making Mäni’s a smashing contributor to this event!

Mäni’s in People

Did you see one of our beautiful wedding cakes in People Magazine?  The April 23rd issue of People featured an article on the wedding of actor John C. McGinley and Nichole Kessler, including a photo of this elegant cake we created for them.  image

The top 2 tiers are our delicious Caramelized Apple Cake (vegan & wheat-free) and the bottom tier is our golden yellow cake with fresh strawberries.  The icing is completely dairy-free also.

Cheeta's 75th Birthday Party

Cheeta the Chimp turned 75 and was lucky enough to have his birthday cake made by Mäni’s on Fairfax.

He’s pictured here on the cover of West magazine, a section of Sunday’s LA Times

Cheeta became famous in 1934 when he starred in the original Tarzan movie with Johnny Weissmuller.  While living in Palm Springs, his sweets have been limited.

Mäni’s to the rescue… Cheeta’s birthday cake was our Chocolate Raspberry Fortress cake, sweetened with our famous fruit juice reduction, and made to look very festive in hot yellow with pink and blue frosting.  He really appreciated having that cake and being able to eat the whole thing without throwing off his blood sugar level.

The soup schedule for the next two weeks is now available.  This menu is good from April 23 to May 6.

Monday: Chicken Noodle
Ingredients: Chicken broth, Chicken Breast, Onions, Carrots, Celery, Potatoes, Tomatoes, Chives, Sea Salt, Black Pepper, Egg Noodles

Tuesday: Chunky Vegetable (NEW) Ingredients: Vegetable Stock, Yellow Onions, Carrots, Celery, Zucchini, Spinach, Tomatoes, Tofu, Thyme, Oregano, Sea Salt, Garlic, Cumin, Tamari

Wednesday: Cream of Asparagus
Ingredients: Vegetable Stock, Canola Oil, Asparagus, Celery, Yellow Onions, Spinach, Sea Salt, Tamari, Soy milk

Thursday: Minestrone
Ingredients: Vegetable stock, carrots, celery, zucchini, cauliflower, parsley, basil, mushrooms, tomatoes, tomato paste, sea salt, black pepper, garlic, cumin, olive oil, red beans, pasta

Friday: Zucchini & Spinach Bisque

We’ve been lax in getting the soup menus up on the blog. But, we’re still serving fabulous soups, courtesy of Chef Jose.  Here’s the menu through April 22.

Monday: Chicken Noodle

Wednesday: Quinoa & Vegetable (New)
Ingredients: Vegetable Stock, Canola Oil, Tomatoes, Carrots, Carrots, Celery, Onions, Yellow Corn, Quinoa, Sea Salt, Cumin, Black Pepper.

Thursday: Cream of Asparagus

Friday: Pasta Fagioli (NEW)

Help Mäni’s Raise Money for Aid for Aids LA

Mäni’s on Fairfax is a supporting restaurant (and bakery) raising money for a good cause.  image
Aid For Aids LA
For every dollar you spend here on Thursday, April 19th, we’re contributing 20% of that to Aid for Aids LA, a local charity providing financial assistance for necessities of life to adults and children living below the poverty-line with HIV/AIDS primarily in Los Angeles County. Their goals are to prevent homelessness and hunger and to enhance self-sufficiency and independent living.

Please join us for some great food, drink and desserts and have 20% of your check donated to this deserving cause.  Thank you in advance for your participation.  It is greatly appreciated!

More on the NEW German Chocolate Cake

imageMany of you wanted more information about our fabulous, new VEGAN German Chocolate Cake.  Here are some specifics on the size and ingredients.

CAKE: Cocoa powder, organic unbleached flour, baking powder, sea salt, egg replacer, ground, decaffeinated organic espresso, organic decaffeinated coffee, tofu, organic maple syrup, canola oil, vanilla extract, white vinegar
FILLING: Organic coconut, pecans, organic soy milk, sucanat (sugar cane natural), agar agar, arrowroot, vanilla extract

As you can see, this cake is made with a lot of high quality, organic ingredients.  The size may seem small at 4” in diameter and 3” tall, but with 3 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling, this really is enough for 2 people. 

We wanted to make a gourmet, vegan chocolate cake that tastes as good as any other chocolate cake and we wanted it to look beautiful and unique.  It may be a bit much after your lunch, but it is really so delicious, we urge you to take one home to share with someone special.  Or you can keep it all for yourself and have dessert for days.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are making a comeback.  Little Indigo was turning the big 5, so we made something different for him. 

This is actually 24 mini chocolate cupcakes iced together like one big cake.  At Mäni’s, we can help you design a fun cake for your child’s birthday party.  A cake that looks as cool as any other, but without the sugar….something you will surely appreciate when you have dozens of little ones running around your house.  Just call our Pastry Chef, Kristina, at 323.964.0840 ext. 19 and she will assist you in designing an awesome cake.
