    Sugar at Mäni’s?

A few of our baked goods contain organic evaporated cane juice, but what is it?  Evaporated cane juice is the dried or crystallized, unrefined juice of sugar cane and a healthy alternative to refined sugar.
    image
While both evaporated cane juice and sugar are made from sugar cane, evaporated cane juice does not undergo the same degree of processing that refined sugar does.  Therefore, it retains more of the nutrients found in sugar cane.
Compared with refined sugars which are about 99.9% pure, evaporated cane juice is about 96% sucrose and 4% minerals.  In an amazing demonstration of the power of nutrition, studies have shown that, in comparison with white sugar, this scant 4% difference actually does slow down blood sugar changes at a statistically significant level.
So, if you must have your fix of our Strawberry Forever Cake, go ahead.  Know that we, at Mäni’s, are looking out for you by providing you healthier, more nutritious, and delicious cakes, cookies, and pastries.

What’s Up In The Dough Department?

If you owned and operated Mäni’s Famous Bakery Cafe on Fairfax and you thought you had a star baker, young and enthusiastic, what would you do?  Yes, you’re correct, that’s the situation I found myself in, so I said: “How would you like to take a course a California’s formost institution of higher learning for bakeries?”

OMG! was the reply, so Joel is off to San Francisco Baking Institute
    image
You see, I’m aware that I’m living vicariously through my amazing staff.  That’s why we have so much fun here and do new things.  Actually at this point we have more new products coming online than ever before in such a short period of time.

But back to Joel.  I think we have a win-win situation on our hands.  He has a bakery to create and succeed in and Mäni’s has a new star, maybe even a super star.  Joel is just back from the city by the bay and very anxious to put his new ideas into new products for YOU, and me too, since I love trying every single new product.  It’s a tough job, but somebody has to do it!

Gee, am I the lucky one or what!

    My Dad’s 90th Birthday

Indeed we are very fortunate when a parent turns 90.  So not only was it wonderful to celebrate my Dad’s 90th, but it was also a great reason to design a brand new cake!  Yes our pastry chef, .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Kristina has created another fabulous cake.  It was a dark chocolate cake with a special chocolate mousse.  Then of course all the decorations were custom and handmade by her.
    image

So after our guests told us how much they loved the cake, it got me thinking….  Let’s ask our customers what they think of a dark chocolate cake.  I know a lot of people like sweeter light chocolate, but I’m wondering if we should consider a very dark bitter sweet or semi sweet chocolate cake?

Maybe even have a special ‘cake tasting’ event?  OK, here’s your chance to convince us!

Who’s interested in a dark chocolate cake?
