May 1st A Day Of Protest
Tomorrow, May 1st, is looking to be a substantial demonstration for immigrant rights. We thank our employees for supporting us and preparing for this historic national boycott. What began just a few weeks ago in LA now seems headed as a nationwide walk out to show that a day without immigrants will just not be business as usual. At Mäni’s on Fairfax, we thoroughly researched how our mostly Latino staff felt about participating in tomorrow’s march. Although we wanted to be able to give our guests and customers all the services we normally provide everyday, it will not be possible tomorrow. We will be open, and the restuarant will be serving a limited menu since we will have no cooks, no chefs, no prep cooks, no bussers, no dishwashers, all the wonderful folks who make Mani’s the great place that it is. We will be open with the following menu:

As both an employee at Mani’s and a huge fan of our sugarfree baked goods, I am very excited that the restaurant is supporting their employees who want to participate in Monday’s protests in support of immigrant rights. Many places, such as the Coffee Bean, have threatened to fire their workers if they don’t show up to work on Monday. I am impressed by Larry and Carl’s support of their employees on this important day of political action.
The marches are for anyone who support immigrant rights, not just for immigrants themselves, so get out there if you can!
The first march begins @ 12:00 Noon at Broadway and Olympic.
The second march begins @ 3:00 pm at MacArthur Park (7th and Alvarado).
Terezia, thank you for that bit of information. I don’t think I"ll be supporting “The Bean” if that statement is true. How unfortuante.
Second, this is a GREAT post! I am deeply touched by the unity and support at Mani’s Bakery. I’ve always enjoyed your food, but mostly I really enjoyed the atmosphere and your employees were always friendly. Now I know why, it all starts from the top and trickles down: A Loving management mirrors a happy staff and therefore and happier community. Bravo to to Mani’s! Many the rest of this country follow suit..
Sorry, but I will not support your march, matter of fact everyone of the immigrants should be given a felony conviction, and deported back to where they belong, and it is not in the US. They are not US CITIZENS, AND NEVER WILL BE, the US GOVERNMENT SHOULD DEPORT EVERY ONE OF THE 11 MILLION ILLEGALS IN THIS COUNTRY, AND THEN PUT LAND MINES ALL ALONG THE BORDER, AND THAT WOULD STOP THE MASS ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, THEY DO NOT BELONG IN THE US, AND THEY HAVE ALREADY DESTROYED CALIF, AND COST CALIF OVER 10 MILLION $ TO EDUCATE THE ILLEGALS, WHAT A JOKE, THEY NEED TO BE IN MEXICO WHERE THEY CAME FROM, AND STAY THERE PERMANENTLY, THEY DO NOT EVER BELONG IN AMERICA,
JUST BECAUSE WE HAVE A SCREWED UP PRESIDENT, DOESN’T MAKE IT RIGHT, DEPORT THEM ALL !!!!
Immigrants come from all over Europe, Asia, Africa, and Canada, too. The Latin community happens to be one of the fastest growing and second largest “minority” group in this country...they’ve paved the path for other non-Hispanic immigrants to have a voice.
