My New Favorite Item!

After being a loyal customer for 10+ years, I have decided to join the Mäni’s Bakery Cafe as their People & Culture Manager.  More on what I am doing in that capacity and how it will affect your experience in a later blog post… In the meantime, I want to tell you that I have discovered an amazing item that I didn’t even know Mäni’s makes.

If you’re like me, you probably have your favorite item that brings you to Mäni’s regularly.  It may be the double chocolate chip cookie or the apple turnover (my wife’s favorite) or the gingerbread cookie (my son’s favorite) or our assortment of muffins or our delicious soups (have you tried them lately?).

For me it was the truffle cream heart cookie.  For years I was here daily for my cookie and soy late.  Needless to say, I was in a rut.  There were times I would have small panic attacks when there were no truffle heart cookies in the display.  It was like nothing else would even come close to satisfying my craving.

Well, since joining the staff here I have tasted many of the other items that I never had before.  For those of you who are passionate and loyal to Mäni’s like I am, you can imagine how pleasurable it is to be “forced” to try all the items.  Last Tuesday I noticed an item on the bottom of the display case that I had never seen before.  It was like it was hiding down there.  I guess I never looked down since “my” heart truffle has always been right there on top.

That was the day that my commitment to the heart truffle was significantly challenged.  After just one bite I knew one thing.  I HAD to take this home to share with my wife.  She is not as huge of a chocolate fan as I am.  But she enjoys items that have an awesome chocolate flavor.  And this was just that, great chocolate with some other awesome flavors.  Have you figured out what it is yet?

That is right, I am talking about the Black Bottom Banana Tart.  Here is the description that we have in our menu.

Black Bottom Banana Tart
Almond shortbread crust with a think layer of barley malt sweetened chocolate.  Covered with bananas and banana custard.

Hmmm… Are your taste buds tingling?  Next time you are in, grab one and see what you think.  (If you don’t like it, let us know and we will replace with your favorite item.)

What is your favorite bakery item here at Mäni’s Bakery Café and why?  Type a note below and click on submit.

PS:  I did take a black bottom banana tart home and my wife loved it.  She told me that she was thinking about it the whole next day.

  1. Although I am new to Mani’s as well, I can definately attest to the fact that whenever I pose the question, “What is your favorite item at Mani’s” to either a guest or a fellow team member, they can never just reply with one answer… It is always, “Well, I love the Apple Spice Cake. AND the Almond Roca. Oh shoot-- how could I forget the Lemon Rasberry Muffin?” Then I go behind the counter and unleash the magic of our famous Truffle Cream Hearts, and they just can’t handle it. “OH YEAH, I love those TOO!! Could I bother you for a sample or two of that?!?”

During my first week here, I have gotten to try many of the homemade savory items this eatery has to offer. I can easily say that it is some of the most incredible tasting food, pastries, and drinks I have devoured in years--and I can remain health-conscious--talk about guiltless gourmet! This place is like a dream come true.

  3. I can’t get enough of the raisin bran muffins and the apple turnovers. I also adore Mani’s vegan nachos. Mmmm! I’m drooling just thinking about them. smile
