What does L.A. have in common with Mäni's Bakery Café? PALMS! OK, it's a stretch.  L.A. is known for its long boulevards lined with majestic palm trees.  Mäni's on Fairfax, in the heart of L.A., may not be known for it yet, but you'll know now...we use organic palm oil in our baked goods. Organic Palm Oil is NOT to be confused with palm kernel oil.  They are totally different.  Palm kernel oil is highly saturated.  Organic Palm Oil has no cholesterol and contains a balance of polyunsaturated, monounsaturated and saturated fatty acids. That means it's good for you! Previously, almost every dairy-free product Mäni's made was made with a well known health-oriented margarine called Hain safflower oil margarine.  However, since safflower oil margarine is partially hydrogenated, we decided to re-do almost every bakery product that used it, and changed to organic palm oil.  So not only is it organic, it not hydrogenated at all.  This is a big health concern in the natural foods community, as well as at Mäni's.  We now find the consistency is better in many cookies, such as the chocolate chip and feedback is they taste even better too!
